Is it possible for me to register my mother's credit cards online with a username/password, but yet not have to immediately link her checking account to them for paying the monthly bills? Basically, she doesn't know how to work the computer, but in a month or two wants me to help her to change her bill banking/bill paying over to online. I do all of my own banking, bill paying, etc. online. But I can't remember in regards to credit cards, if it's a "must" that you provide a checking account for bill paying, when registering a credit card online. She has some checks and such left that she'd like to use, so that they don't go to waste. So for another month or two, the payments to the accounts (even if the card is registered online) will be sent by mail. The Cust. Service people over the phone ask for only her income alone, for credit line increases. Online, it gives the option of "household income". I'd like to be able to combine our income so that she gets a better credit increase.
So I'm basically trying to find out if I have to link her checking account to the cards when I register her cards online, just to be able to request her credit line increases?
Well, she doesn't "need" an increase in her credit lines. But it certainly doesn't help to do it if it hasn't been done in a while. I know a lot of people on here go into the, "NO! DON'T increase your credit line! Cut the cards up, throw them away, use your cash. Credit cards cause debt, blah, blah, blah" mantra that they chant all the time. But usually it's because they assume that since they got themself into a horrible mess with their credit...that every other person in the world will do the same thing as them. A higher credit limit doesn't mean you spend it up. It means...lower interest rates for some things like mortgages. It also makes your debt to credit ratio a lot better. So it has it's purpose. I don't know what "red flags" you feel that

Why does she need an increase in her credit lines? This is raising all sorts of "red flags" to me. She can make single payments online w/o registering her checking acct(s). Also, why would she never need "paper checks" anymore?
raises for you. But...she particularly is tired of having to pay for stamps for mailing bills and eventually wants to pay them online anyway. She doesn't use her checks for much of anything else but paying typical bills. So if those bills are paid online (as she wants to eventually do because it's quicker and more efficient, and requires no stamps)...then those checks will be kind of useless.

Many online stores refer to your payment as by "credit card" with no mention of a debit card, but when I tried my debit card for WoW, it worked. Is this the same for most or all online stores or payment methods?

It was recently brought to my attention:

So why not MILK THE MINT?
1. Use your card and buy 0 in dollar coins @ USMint.gov, shipped to you free.
2. Take those 0 to your bank and deposit the money
3. Pay back your credit card ASAP (no excuse, you got the money to you, no fees, just a trip to the bank)
4. Your credit card gives you 1-3% cash back, so for every 0 you "buy" ,you get -15. Not bad for visiting a bank, rumor has it banks don't even open the box to count them.

Any reason somebody shouldn't do this?
